After some silly season rumors, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series team TRICON Garage has confirmed Martin Truex Jr. will race in the Great American Race under number 56, the first time Truex has raced that number since his endavors with Michael Waltrip Racing in 2013.
TRICON Garage and Toyota partnered beginning with the 2023 Truck Series season, and has already amassed nine victories to date. This will mark their first entry into NCS competition.
The Toyota Camry XSE will be receiving technical support from Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) and championship crew chief Cole Pearn will reunite with Truex Jr., returning to Cup racing for the first time since 2019. Outdoor equipment Bass Pro Shops will continue its long-standing partnership with Truex, as they are the primary sponsor on the No. 56 entry.
Already joining a very competitive field for "open" cars, Truex will have to lock himself into the Daytona 500, as he is not guaranteed a starting position.
Truex, notably, hasn't had much success at Daytona, or rather superspeedways in general. His best finish at a superspeedway in NCS competition was at the 2016 Daytona 500, where he finished second to teammate Denny Hamlin in a photo finish.
